LocalCall vs iPhone Live Translation at a glance

Translated phone calls from any phone or computer, not only a newer iPhone.

Apple added Live Translation to the iPhone Phone app in iOS 26. It translates one-on-one calls on the device, and the person you call can be on any phone, even a landline. It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later with Apple Intelligence turned on, and it works in a set of supported languages that iOS 27 expanded. LocalCall translates calls from any modern browser, on Android, an older iPhone, or a laptop, in 40+ languages, and bills international calls per minute instead of at your carrier's rates. It can also make the call for you.

When your iPhone can't translate the call

Live Translation works well when your iPhone and both languages are supported. LocalCall covers the rest: calls from Android or a laptop, older iPhones, languages outside Apple's list, and calls you'd rather hand to an AI agent.

20-minute cost example

A 20-minute translated call costs 20 times the destination's live-translation rate, which LocalCall shows before you dial. On your iPhone, the same call is billed at your carrier's international rate.

Best for
  • Android phones, older iPhones, and computers
  • Languages outside Apple's supported list
  • Calling abroad without an international plan
  • Handing the whole call to an AI agent
Not best for
  • Calls that must come from your own number
  • Translation without a data connection
  • FaceTime and Messages translation
When translation matters

Both sides hear each other in their own language in real time, and you follow a transcript as the call happens.

When an AI agent helps

If you'd rather not be on the call at all, the AI agent speaks the other language for you and reports back.

When to choose LocalCall

Choose LocalCall if you don't have an iPhone 15 Pro or later, need a language Apple doesn't support for calls, are calling abroad and want per-minute rates instead of your carrier's international pricing, or want an AI to make the call for you. If you already have a supported iPhone, speak a supported language, and have international calling on your plan, Live Translation is a good built-in option.
